Available Webinars

1. Employee Retention Credits. This webinar was hosted by The Provisum Group and they use GoToMeeting instead of Zoom. Accordingly, they have the video. If people will email Don Corder (dcorder@theprovisumgroup.com) at Provisum he will be happy to send them a link to the video. Don is also the person to connect with to start the process of applying for the money. You might remind people that there is a deadline for applications of March 31, 2023. Right now, the IRS is running 6-12 months to issue checks. It’s better to apply now.

2. Low-Interest Loans. We hosted this webinar. To see the presentation by Norwood Davis, Chief Strategy Officer for the Wesleyan Investment Foundation, you can go to this link from our YouTube Channel:  https://youtu.be/eK6qmliQeUk.  If people want a copy of the slides, they can email Debbie Moore in our office: dmoore@wesleyancovenant.org

Summary of WPA WCA Annual Gathering – November 2021

Zelienople – The Western Pennsylvania chapter of the Wesleyan Covenant Association met for their annual meeting at Harmony-Zelienople UMC on Saturday, November 6, where reports were given, elections taken, and worship celebrated. Reports regarding the task forces were enthusiastically given and received as both lay and clergy were being inspired and beginning to share with and equip others in ways of doing ministry that makes disciples of Jesus Christ who worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly. Those in attendance were encouraged to do ministry in these new and effective ways even as they wait on future decisions made by the General Conference of the UMC.

Keith McIlwain, who has served as the Chairperson for the WPA Chapter for the past 4 years, led those gathered through the day that celebrated what God is doing in and among the people of Western Pennsylvania. A video highlighting the Global Methodist Church was shared as was a video from Chris Ritter whose voice is well-known in WCA and GMC circles and had a message of encouragement and hope specifically for those in WPA.

As those in attendance looked to the future, these six new leaders were elected to the class of 2024 for the Council: Valerie Mize, John Seth, Karen Phillips, Neil Shindledecker, John Emigh, and Nate Fugate.  In addition, Renaye Hoffman was elected to continue as Treasurer and Karen Phillips was elected to continue as Secretary with Laura Saffell elected to serve as the new Chairperson. All those elected will begin their new terms on January 1, 2022.

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!

The Wesleyan Covenant Association (WCA) connects Spirit-Alled, orthodox churches, clergy, and laity who hold to Wesleyan theology. It is an association of individuals and congregations who share a common understanding of our Wesleyan doctrine and a desire to become a vibrant, faithful, growing 21st century church.

As clergy & lay delegates you are all preparing for our WPA Annual Conference June 2-4. We wanted to share some helpful information as we navigate these challenging times in the UMC. You may be aware that the delay of General Conference 2020 to May of 2024 has left annual conferences in the position of trying to figure out how to graciously allow people from a range of theological perspectives to either remain in the UMC or move into another denomination. With that in mind, there are 3 pieces of legislation coming before Annual

Conference addressing efforts to provide exit pathways, all of which we heartily endorse.

  • RS 701 – Actively Waiting Task Force Petition for the Intentional Missional Alignment Process…this is the legislation under the guidance of our Bishop
  • P 72 – To Clarify Process for Deeding Church Property to Another Evangelical Denomination
  • ¶2548.2…this is the legislation to allow UM churches to deed their property to the Global Methodist Church or another evangelical denomination
  • P 73 – For Disaffiliation Agreement Pursuant to ¶2553…this is legislation to provide a pathway for disaffiliation adapting the process for our particular conference

Other legislation coming before our Annual Conference that we would like you to be aware of are:

  • P 14 – End Degrading Behavior Against Female Athletes…this would bar biological males from competing in female exclusive sports competitions
  • P 23 – Guidance on Local Church Reporting…this addresses the statistical reporting of genders beyond male and female

We are offering four (4) regional informational gatherings to provide guidance in making these decisions.

Everyone is invited to come and participate in any or all of these:

May 21 @ 9:30 am – Corry First UMC, 650 Worth Street in Corry

May 21 @ 2:30 pm – Purchase Line UMC, 17107 Route 286 Hwy E in Commodore

May 22 @ 2:00 pm – Cabot UMC, 707 Winfield Road in Cabot

May 22 @ 6:30 pm – Paradise UMC, 105 Hoke Road in Mt Pleasant

The keynote speaker for these events is Rev. Angela Pleasants who serves as Vice President of Clergy Church Relations with the WCA. She currently serves as Senior Chaplain with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department. She was also among the first to be ordained in the newly launched Global Methodist Church on May 1, 2022.

Another informational opportunity will be offered during Annual Conference on Friday, June 3, during our lunch break with Rev. Bob Kaylor, Lead Pastor at Tri-Lakes UMC in Colorado since 2010 where he currently serves. All are welcome to come and participate in this as well.

Our prayers are for our Bishop and Conference leadership seeking ways to bless and send churches and clergy honoring their theological convictions. Our prayers are also extended for all of the delegates to Annual Conference and all the churches that our delegates represent. Now may the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

Serving in Jesus’ name,

Rev. Laura A. Saffell, Chairperson
